Bauhaus Luftfahrt is an interdisciplinary research institution funded by the four aerospace companies Airbus, Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft
(IABG), Liebherr-Aerospace, and MTU Aero Engines as well as grants from the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy, and Technology.
The non-profit association is an internationally oriented think tank. Its team of around 50 employees deals with the future of mobility in general
and with the development of air travel in particular. The goal of the research work is to consider the complex system of aviation from different
points of view. In every project, the technical, economic, social, and ecological aspects are considered holistically.

Aeronautical / Aerospace / Mechanical Engineer (m/f) as Researcher in the field of Aircraft Design and Hybrid Electric Propulsion Systems
The Visionary Aircraft Team’s mission is the assessment of innovative aircraft configurations aiming at achieving the
goals stated by the ACARE agenda for the year 2050 as well as the European Commission according to “Flightpath 2050
Europe’s Vision for Aviation“. For this purpose advanced design and analysis methods are applied and enhanced,
enabling thereby testing the feasibility of complex and strongly interacting systems. The activities of the team include
the propagation of the acquired findings in the scientific and technical community.
Coordination and work on cooperation projects with our industry partners and other research institutions in the field of aircraft design
Participation in team design projects as aircraft designer and specialist for the applied methods and tools
Research and method development in the field of hybrid propulsion systems and aircraft performance assessment and optimization
Integration of innovative technologies and their assessment on propulsion system and overall aircraft level
Development of methods for the conceptual design and multidisciplinary optimization of hybrid propulsion systems and electrical system architectures
University degree with or without PhD in the area of Aeronautical / Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering
Experience in research activities or professional industry experience
Excellent mathematical and analytical capabilities (e.g. MATLAB), as well as the willingness to acquaint yourself with new topics and programs
Knowledge in aircraft design and optimization methods as well as experience in their application is beneficial
Profound team work abilities and willingness to participate and contribute to an interdisciplinary team
Proficiency in English, German language skills are beneficial
We offer a modern working environment on the Ludwig-Bölkow-Campus located in Taufkirchen near Munich, a team-oriented approach,
flat hierarchies and flexible work time. Employment, compensation and benefits are determined by the collective agreement for public
service and contain performance-oriented compensation as well as a company pension scheme. The position is assigned to the department
„Visionary Aircraft Concepts” and initially implies a temporary employment contract. The vacancy is open to both
