Assistant or Associate Professor position – Machine Learning and Data Science

The Department of Network and Data Science invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Machine Learning and Data Science at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Department of Network and Data Science at the Central European University carries out research with focus both on the foundations of network science and on data-driven applications. The department offers a PhD program in Network Science, the only program of this kind in Europe with fully funded scholarships each year, which attracts students from all over the world. In addition, the department will host a bachelor's program on Quantitative Social Sciences from the Fall Term in 2021 and is planning to launch a master's program in Computational Social Science in 2022. Qualifications:
We expect applications from computer scientists, or researchers in related fields, with an excellent publication record. The applicant should be an expert in applied machine learning methods, and preferably have experience with social or behavioral data and/or research at the interface between machine learning and network science. The candidates should have a strong motivation to conduct interdisciplinary research and be interested in participating in projects with other departments at CEU. Capability of high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching is assumed.

Candidates should have a PhD in statistics, mathematics or related disciplines.

Job description:
The candidate will be expected to carry out high level research and acquire external funding. CEU has an internal project and travel support scheme too. The candidate will be expected to teach computer science, machine learning and data science at undergraduate and graduate level as well as supervise thesis work. Teaching load is comparable to that of research universities.
The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental administrative services.

Compensation
We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience as well as additional benefits (e.g., sabbatical system, pension plan). In the case of the Associate Professor rank the initial contract is up to 4 years, which can be renewed or turned into indefinite term. For the Assistant Professor rank promotion within 6 years is possible depending upon review.
