The energy transition is one of the grand challenges for the world in the 21st century. The Thermal Engineering (TE)
research group wants to contribute by developing new solutions in the field of sustainable energy, clean and efficient
energy conversion and advanced thermal equipment. Therefore we offer both graduate and undergraduate students a stimulating
research environment for their education in the area of thermal engineering and to perform excellent scientific research in
a national and international context with industrial relevance.
The TE group is part of the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering (TFE) of the Faculty of Engineering Technology,
which also includes the Energy Technology group, Engineering Fluid Dynamics group and the Multi Scale Mechanics group:
Important basic disciplines for the TT position in the TE group are thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer,
energy conversion and process technology. The research quality has to be excellent leading to scientific publications and
applications in industry and society. This requires high-level experimental and theoretical research, design and development
of new computational tools, and development of new advanced thermal technologies. Examples of possible research subjects are
unsteady and turbulent heat transfer, advanced thermodynamics, new energy materials, thermal hybrid PV, advanced heat pumps
and engines, energy storage, etc.
Education and research are coupled and therefore the TE group is involved in both the BSc- and MSc-programmes of Mechanical
Engineering. Furthermore the TE group is coordinating and strongly involved in the 3TU MSc-programme of Sustainable Energy
Technology (SET), and the PDeng-programme Energy and Process Technology, a 2 years post-master designer programme. The
candidate will contribute to the education efforts of the TE goup and set up new courses to inspire students.
We are seeking ambitious candidates that have:
an outstanding research track record in the relevant sub-disciplines in thermal engineering with excellent theoretical and experimental skills,
commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level,
the ability to communicate effectively and inspire students and co-workers,
the ambition to collaborate with other research groups participating within and outside the faculty and setting up international collaborations on a high scientific level,
the aptitude and drive to conduct exploratory, pioneering research, keeping a keen eye on practical (energy) applications, and applying for external funding.
You are a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, with well-developed communication and
project management skills. Several years of (international) experience as postdoctoral researcher, and a high-level publication record are
a prerequisite. You can contribute to excellence in the field of thermal engineering, including experimental work as well as modelling.

Conditions of employment
We offer a fulltime position for a maximum period of seven years with the intention to grant tenure after a positive final evaluation.
In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities the gross monthly salary for an Assistant Professor
will range from € 3.068,- to € 5.330,- and is up to a maximum of € 6.349,- for an Associate Professor, depending on
experience and qualifications. In addition the University of Twente offers attractive employment conditions (for example 8% holiday
allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus), excellent support for research and facilities for professional and personal development.
