Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Governance of energy transformations (f/m/d)

Introduction
The University of Lausanne is a higher teaching and research institution composed of seven faculties where approximately 17,000 students and nearly 5,000 research, teaching and technical staff work and study. Ideally situated along Lake Geneva, near Lausanne’s city center, its campus brings together over 120 nationalities.

Presentation
The Faculty of Geosciences and the Environment ( FGSE) of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Governance of Energy Transformations, to be based at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability ( IGD).

We seek candidates addressing the governance of energy transformations from a wide range of social-science disciplines at supranational, national, and/or local scales. Topics of particular interest include: supply and/or demand; efficiency and sufficiency; inequality; democratization; social practices; spatial and mobility planning; housing and real estate; conflicts between renewable energy production and environmental protection; social justice (energy access, energy poverty and inequalities); energy economics; public policy. The selected person should be prepared to work in an interdisciplinary manner and to foster local collaborations at the institute, faculty, and university level (e.g., CLIMACT, Competence Centre in Sustainability, CIRM) and with external research centers such as the Energypolis Campus in Sion and the EPFL Energy Center.

Information
Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track). However, we will consider outstanding candidates for direct appointment at the Associate Professor level, particularly if this corresponds with our equal opportunity objectives.

Starting date: 1st of August, 2023 (or to be agreed upon)
Contract length: Renewable 2-year contracts for up to 6 years. Tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor expected after 5-6 years.
Activity rate: 100 % (or to be agreed upon)
Workplace: University of Lausanne (quartier UNIL-Mouline)

Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to i) develop a competitive research program with external funding within the Institute of Geography and Sustainability, ii) teach at the bachelor level, as well as at the MA in Foundations and Practices of Sustainability and the MSc in Geography and iii) supervise bachelor, master, and doctoral students.

Qualifications
A PhD in a relevant field at the date of appointment is required and postdoctoral experience is expected. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity to undertake high quality research, to obtain research funding, and to publish in peer-reviewed international research journals. A demonstrated potential for teaching and for supervising master and doctoral theses is required. If French is not the native language, teaching ability in French must be acquired within two years of the appointment.

What the position offers
The Faculty of Geosciences and the Environment (FGSE) offers excellent working conditions. It consists of three research institutes (Earth Sciences, Geography and Sustainability, and Earth Surface Dynamics) and a School that manages teaching. It employs 50 professors and more than 10 senior lecturers, some 200 PhD students and post-docs, and more than 60 technical staff. The FGSE specifically promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching, within and between the social and natural sciences.
