The Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Bonn is looking to fill a
W1 Assistant Professorship (tenure track to W2)
for Christian Social Ethics with focus
on sustainable development
at the earliest possible date.
We are looking for a candidate who makes a fundamental and innovative
contribution to Christian socio-ethical research, with a focus on sustainable
development. A doctorate in Catholic theology is required. The successful
candidate is to comprehensively represent the subject in research and
teaching. Within the Faculty’s cooperation with the University of Cologne, part
of the teaching load will include teaching degree courses at the University of
It is expected that the professorship holder will actively engage in the conception
and implementation of faculty and university research projects. In particular,
s/he will be expected to participate in the research focus area „Ambiguities
– Identities – Sense Concepts“ of the Faculty as well as in transdisciplinary
research areas of the University of Bonn.
Assistant professors are appointed for a period of three years; an extension
for another three years is possible if the interim evaluation is positive. If the
responsible committees of the University of Bonn in the final evaluation decide
in favor of the candidate, a permanent W2 professorship can be offered.
This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German
Federal and State Governments. Awarding tenure is not subject to a vacancy
at the time when the fixed-term contract of the tenure-track position expires.
This call is aimed at early-career researchers. As a general rule, the candidate
must have earned his/her doctoral degree within the last four years. Candidates
who have completed their doctorate at the University of Bonn must have
changed universities or have been working in academic research outside of the
University of Bonn for at least two years prior to applying.
