Section for Biophysics and Medical Technology in the Department of Physics, and the newly employed Associate Professor will have responsibility for research and teaching within biophysics and bionanotechnology.
The Section for Biophysics and Medical Technology at the Department of Physics has extensive research activities within experimental biophysics, bionanotechnology, biophotonics, multi-photon microscopy, ultrasound-mediated drug delivery, MR-guided radiotherapy and development of MRI methods.
Much of recent progress in biophysics and in biomedical research worldwide is connected close integration with engineering and technology. This include novel platforms to study molecular and cellular processes, single cell assays, microfluidics platforms to control molecular gradients or develop new diagnostic tools, high throughput screening and sequencing, and integration with mathematical models.
It is a strategic goal of the Department of Physics, to strengthen development and application of microdevices and micro- and nanotechnology in biophysics and biomedical research, enhancing current activities at NTNU and creating new research themes. The successful candidate is expected to initiate, lead and contribute to research within this area of biophysics. Examples include tailor- making of microdevices e.g., based on microfluidics, integrated with additional functionalities by electrical, acoustic and optical means, has an increasing impact within biophysics. The shared cleanroom facility
NTNU Nanolab will be an important infrastructure and collaboration partner for the newly employed academic staff member.
The research program could include devices of interest within:
- molecular biophysics (macromolecular characterization, mesoscale structures, biomarker harvesting and characterization)
- cellular biophysics (control of chemical and topographical environments in 2D and 3D to study cellular processes, engineering of cell-cell contacts, topics related to cell based high throughput screening, novel correlative imaging approaches)
The position reports to the Head of the Department.
