Associate Professor in the Study of Religions

The Department of History, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a position as associate professor of the Study of Religions to be filled by August 1st 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants must hold a Ph.D.-degree in the humanities-based study of religion and document further additional, substantial research and teaching expertise in the Study of Religions. Applicants must document their research and teaching expertise in a field of specialization as well as good qualifications in teaching other fields than their field of specialization, and they must be ready to teach courses in additional disciplines of the Study of Religions, as relevant to the BA and MA curricula of the Study of Religions section. The successful applicant must have good social skills and they are expected to take an active part in the life of the section of the Study of Religions, including various forms of administration, research collaboration, course development and the like. Applicants must be able to teach courses in the fall of 2022. Application, salary and conditions of employment, etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish). If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months. Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice.
