The faculty has established close cooperation on research with the International Research Institute
of Stavanger (IRIS) and the regional industry. A number of master’s and doctoral theses are made

Associate Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering
The University of Stavanger invites applications for a position as associate professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at
Faculty of Science and Technology . The position is a part of the Chemistry and Environment scientific group, within the field of

The position requires a PhD within chemical and environmental engineering or equivalent. Qualifications within the areas of creativity,
innovation and commercialization of research will be emphasized. A successful applicant must also be able to document pedagogical and
didactic skills related to higher education, or agree to complete university teaching courses within a period of two years from commencing
the position as Associate Professor. The use of new teaching methods is a priority at the university; hence, the appointee must also be prepared to adopt new methods.
Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis. Independent research
experience will be preferred.
The appointee must also be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills related to higher education, or accept to enter a university
teaching courses within a period of two years from commencement. The application should include a reflection on teaching skills.
Use of varied teaching methods is a priority at the university. The appointee must be prepared to adopt different methods and different
digital learning resources. Associate Professor will the first year participate in "NyTi" which is the universities guidance and integration program for new teachers.
The appointee must be able to document basic competence in teaching skills or, alternatively, accept to enter a program that provides such competence within a period of two years.
The language of instruction is normally Norwegian. The appointee must have a good command of oral and written Norwegian or another Scandinavian language,
or acquire such language proficiency within a period of two years. The appointee must also be prepared to teach classes in English.
The position of professor is salaried according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.510, code 1011, of NOK 535 900 - 577 400 per annum. In special cases higher salaries may apply.
The position provides for automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favorable retirement benefits.

Appointment applies to the whole university. Administratively the position is placed at the Faculty of Science and Technology
in the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The position is a part of the scientific group Chemistry and Environment,
with three Full Professors, five Associate Professors, and six Laboratory Engineers.
The scientific group Chemistry and Environment is responsible for the basic education in Chemistry and the master programme in
Environmental Engineering. We have recently moved into newly renovated offices, and our laboratories are equipped with up to
date instrumentation and infrastructure. The research focus is within green petroleum production chemistry, organic synthesis
and bioprospecting, environmental technology and aquatic environmental science. Our research is mainly experimental, but also
include theoretical approaches such as process modelling and environmental risk analysis. The group has cooperation with other
research groups at the Faculty.
The appointee shall, together with the other faculty members, conduct research and contribute to the development of research at
the UiS. The appointee shall manage courses, supervise students and participate in student assessment within the field for the
position and administrative duties.
The academic field of the position is in Chemical and Environmental Engineering. The appointee should preferably have qualifications
within one or several of the following topics (in preferred order):
- Separation Technology
- Process Analysis and Modelling
- Reactor and Process Technology
- Design and Operation
- Water Chemistry
- Environmental Chemistry
The position is associated with applied research and technological development. Experience from industrial projects is valuable, but not required.
The appointee is expected to support and participate in the other activities at the faculty and also to accept responsibility for interdepartmental programs or projects.
The University emphasizes excellence in teaching quality and requires that teaching staff has educational and didactic expertise in higher education.
Pedagogical competence can be documented with diploma / certificate from relevant formal educational training related to higher education. Didactic
competence can be documented with varied didactic work in higher education. Regulations for assessment of teaching skills are available from the Faculty.
Applicants will be screened by an expert committee on the basis of submitted material. The committee will particularly consider the applicants’
submitted scholarly and scientific work and their teaching skills. Experience from popularization, journalism, university politics and administration,
and other relevant and documented qualifications for the position can also be considered.
