The aim of OncoRay – National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology is the improvement of the cure of cancer diseases through biologically
individualized, technologically optimized radiation therapy. OncoRay has been established in 2005 as an interdisciplinary research center of the Technische
Universität Dresden, the University Hospital Dresden and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. It is located at the Medical Faculty and offers
high-level research facilities, internationally acknowledged expertise in translational cancer and radiation research, and a dedicated postgraduate school
with an MSc and a PhD program. One of the core facilities at OncoRay is the Experimental Area of the University Proton Therapy Dresden (EA-UPTD) recently
extended by an additional proton research beamline.
For the EA-UPTD, we are seeking for a highly motivated and technically skilled
Beamline Scientist (f/m)
preferably from January 1
st, 2019, onwards. The salary is according to the TV-L dispositions. The position is a full-time employment and the
contract is first limited to 2.5 years. The position is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 project “INSPIRE”.
Tasks:
- Beam commissioning for pencil beam scanning at the EA-UPTD
- Further development of the research infrastructure at the EA-UPTD, in particular
- support of implementing pencil beam scanning
- improvement of beam control software
- enhancement of irradiation Setups
- Supervision and maintenance of the research infrastructure at the EA-UPTD
- Support (planning, setup, realization, and analysis) of biology and physics irradiation Experiments
- Assistance of in-house users and external Groups
- Preparation and update of documentation
Your profile:
- PhD in physics or a related discipline
- Excellent knowledge in radiation and medical physics, in particular acceleration, transport, detection and interaction of particle beams with matter
- Experimental skills and practical experience in irradiation and dosimetry
- Good practical knowledge of modern programming languages such as C++ and Python
- Experience with Monte Carlo particle transport simulations is a plus
- Basic knowledge in radiation biology and interest in multidisciplinary Research
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and goal-oriented
- Very good knowledge of the English language and willingness to work in an international team
