The Department of Plant Developmental Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) in Cologne is seeking a
Bioinformatician (m/f/div)
to analyze data derived from RNA sequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing experiments, to construct gene regulatory networks, and to develop methods for analysis of single cell transcriptome data from plant tissues. The successful applicant will interact closely with Professor George Coupland and members of his group in the design of experiments and in innovating data processing pipelines. He / she will contribute to a community of bioinformaticians at MPIPZ and interact with the Max Planck Genome centre Cologne.
We seek a highly creative and motivated candidate with a PhD in bioinformatics, informatics, statistical physics, computer science or molecular biology. Experience in analysis of large data sets and computational methods to analyze single cell transcriptomes or transcriptional regulatory networks on a genome-wide basis is of advantage but not essential. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in biological processes and will want to develop new biocomputational approaches and experimental horizons within a group heavily involved in solving biological problems. The position is initially for two years with the possibility of extension and according to public service regulation.
The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) (
http://www.mpipz.mpg.de/) is one of the world’s premier sites committed to research into fundamental processes and training in plant biology. There are four science departments, several independent research groups and specialist support, totaling ~ 400 staff from all over the world.
The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society also seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
