as soon as possible searched for the Institute of Pathology at the University Hospital Heidelberg to work at the Center for Molecular Pathology in the group of Medical Bioinformatics.
The position is limited to 3 years. The salary is paid according to the German TV-L system (the salary agreement for public service employees).
The Medical Bioinformatics group (lead by Dr. Jan Budczies) works closely together with the Center for Molecular Pathology (MPZ) Heidelberg, one of the leading centers for molecular diagnostics in Europe.
We work with cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art infrastructure and offer access to international research networks. The preferred candidate will work in an interdisciplinary and highly motivated team.
Project description:
Malignant tumors, besides cancer cells, include a microenvironment composed of stromal, immune, vascular and other cells. The project seeks to explore the cellular architecture of malignant tumors by the application machine learnings to digital tissue slides. Exploitation of the cellular composition and organization is expected to contribute to the development of new and better biomarkers for prediction of prognosis and of therapy response.
Tasks
Method development for the analysis of histomorphological and of multispectral imaging digital tissue slides
Integration of digital tissue data, molecular high-throughput data and clinical-pathological data
Presentation of research results at meetings and conferences, contribution to paper writing
Prerequisites
Masters’ degree or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, informatics, computational biology or a related science
Excellent programming skills in at least one programming language, preferably R
Skills in big data analysis and machine learning
Enthusiasm to apply machine learning methods to the analysis of digital tissue slides, research experience in image analysis would be a plus
Familiarity with concepts and data bases related to cancer research would be a plus
Proficiency in English speaking and writing, as well as good team and communication skills
