The Technische Universität Ilmenau seeks to fill a W3 professorship from October 1st 2023 and
invites applications for a full-time tenured full professor position:
The professorship is located in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Intensive cooperation with all institutes within the department but also with cross-departmental institutes (e.g. Thuringian Energy Research Institute) is expected and the person should seek intensive involvement in research cooperation at the TU Ilmenau.
The main focus of the professorship should be on the research field of modern apparatus and switchgear in sustainable electrical power engineering. We are looking for an outstanding, internationally visible researcher with excellent teaching skills. The future position holder should comprehensively represent the subjected field in research and teaching. Applications are expected from scientists with research work preferably in one or more of the following areas:
- Smart hybrid switching systems and power mechatronics for AC and DC grids
- Data-intensive methods for design of devices as well as diagnostics and condition monitoring
- Detection and evaluation of partial discharges, arcing faults and other discharge phenomena for early fault detection
- Physical mechanisms and functional materials for insulation and contact applications
- High-voltage and high-current technology and associated multiphysics simulation
In addition to in-depth topics in the above-mentioned areas, contributions to the overarching and fundamental teaching are expected. It is expected that the future position holder will be active in national and international scientific networks and leverage them for research work.
The professorship is responsible for courses in the engineering programs of the university in German and English-language, especially in the field of electrical power engineering. Ability to lecture both in German and in English is required.
Pedagogical aptitude and the willingness to contribute significantly to the further development of study programs and study content are required. The future holder of the position should actively participate in academic self-administration.
The prerequisites for employment as a university professor are the provisions of § 84 ThürHG, in particular proof of additional scientific achievements, usually through a habilitation, as well as experience in teaching.
