Computational Biologist (f/m/d) for the Divisions of Mechanisms Regulating Gene Expression and Somatic Diversification in Immunity
Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum / German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.
The Divisions of Mechanisms Regulating Gene Expression and Somatic Diversification in Immunity are seeking a
We are currently looking for an experienced computational biologist to join the laboratories of Nina Papvasiliou and Michaela Frye at the German Cancer
Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Our labs study the dynamic occurrence of various RNA modifications in a transcriptome-wide manner to understand how
they contribute to major biological processes, including cellular diversity, stress responses, immunity and cancer.
The successful applicant will devise and carry out computational analyses of existing and novel large-scale epitranscriptomic, transcriptomic and proteomic datasets.
The required tasks will involve developing and applying bioinformatics methods to mine large multi-omics datasets from various biological systems. The work will comprise
technical as well as discovery aspects and will be carried out independently and together with internal and external collaborators.
A PhD in a field related to computational biology and solid training in molecular and system-wide biology is required. Equally important is a high motivation to learn
and adapt scientific challenges and to become a positive member of the labs. We use many different methodologies and concepts in different areas in biology. Therefore,
an open mind set and abroad interest in biology across subfield boundaries is needed.
Other required skills:
Excellent data analysis skills in R or Python
Fluent in English and good written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
The position is limited to 1 year with the possibility of prolongation.
