Doctoral researcher for combine harvester research

In the framework of a new R&D project on combine harversters in collaboration with Case New Holland Industrial Belgium n.v. (CNHi), the division Mechatronics, Biostatistics and Sensors (MeBioS) of the KU Leuven is looking for a motivated Doctoral researcher for combine harvester research

The Division Mechatronics, Biostatistics and Sensors is a dynamic research group employing more than 100 young researchers in the area of quality optimization of a wide variety of products and processes.

CNHi is a multinational company that develops and produces combine harvesters, larges quare balers and forage harvesters in Belgium. As a global Centre of Excellence, its Zedelgem plant even serves as a research centre for flagship machines of these product families.

To accelerate the development of these machines, CNHi invests in the development of computer models for the interaction between crop and machine. Therefore, CNHi closely collaborates with the division MeBioS of the KU Leuven.

  • Mechanical characterization of bio-materials for particle simulations
  • Development and instrumentation of test rigs
  • Signal processing and modeling
  • Field testing
  • A Master degree in (bio-) engineering or science
  • Interest in agricultural machines
  • Good knowledge of mathematics, statistics and mechanics
  • Strong experimental skills
An ideal candidate has
  • Experience in the measurement of mechanical properties of bio- or construction materials
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Matlab, Python, R, C++
  • Knowledge of Labview
  • The possibility to obtain a PhD.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the harvesting machines of the future.
  • The opportunity to present on national and international conferences.
