As an integrative research center, the Campus Straubing is fully integrated into the Technische Universität of München (TUM). Scientists at the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability conduct fundamental research and technological developments on renewable raw materials, biotechnology and the bioeconomy. The main research areas are energy recovery, as well as economic aspects related to the production, marketing and use of renewable raw materials. Other research areas include regenerative energy systems and the recycling of residual materials. In research and teaching, the principle of sustainability also receives special attention.

Are you passionate about e-waste? Then look no further! We are constantly looking for highly motivated students to join our research in the following area: The amount of electronic waste (abbr.: e-waste) has been constantly increasing in the developed world as well as in countries overseas. Countries like Germany have established mechanisms to deal with these waste flows. But nevertheless exporting of broken electronic devices takes place under the cloak of development aid. Within the destination countries these flows are both seen as a curse and blessing.
Possible research areas of a bachelor/master thesis can be:
Reasons for e-waste in Germany
User behaviour regarding electronic devices and their disposal
Current waste legislation in Germany
Role of the municipalities and local recycling centres
Business models for achieving Circular Economy in e-waste treatment
Minimum Skills Required:
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field of Economics or adjecent fields
Fluency in English and / or German
Ability to think ahead and to be creative
