The
Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Full Professor in
»High-Voltage Engineering and Switchgear Technology«
to begin in summer semester 2019. The position is a tenured W3 position.
Scientific environment The professorship belongs to the TUM Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Its facilities
consist of several high-voltage test fields including a large high-voltage laboratory (1200 kV AC, 1200 kV DC, 2400 kV LI/SI). Furthermore,
the chair is a cornerstone of TUM’s Center of Competence "Power Systems of the Future", which is bound to play a leading role in the field of
electrical power engineering internationally.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area
of High-Voltage Engineering and Switchgear Technology with a focus on the challenges resulting from electrical stresses with DC voltages and the use of
new insulating materials. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with high international reputation who has demonstrated an outstanding academic record and an internationally recognized research program.
A university degree and an out-standing doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English,
are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
Furthermore, the candidate has to have experience in the operation and management of high-voltage laboratories. An expressly commitment to do interdisciplinary research,
e.g. in materials science, is obligatory. The ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and to attracting third-party funding (DFG, EU, AiF, BMBF, BMWi)
is also required.
