Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for
the position of
Full Professor
in » Artificial Intelligence for the Built World «
to begin in winter semester 2021/22. The position is a tenured W3
position. The professorship is endowed by the Nemetschek
Innovation Foundation. At the same time, the position holder is
appointed founding director of the new “TUM Georg Nemetschek
Institute Artificial Intelligence for the Built World”. The institute is
expected to establish itself as an internationally visible center of
excellence in the field of artificial intelligence in the building industry.
Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Engineering
and Design and is affiliated with the Integrative Research Center
(IRC) Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI). It is strongly connected
to the Departments of Architecture, Civil and Environmental
Engineering, Engineering Physics & Computation and Computer
Science as well as to the Leonhard Obermeyer Center of Digital
Methods for the Built Environment of TUM.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the
promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in
the research area of Artificial Intelligence for the Built World with a
focus on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Centered
Engineering and related data and knowledge based technologies,
with special dedication to applications in architecture, engineering,
construction, operate & manage in built environment (AECOM).
Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor
and master programs.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with an exceptional international
research and teaching reputation and an established academic
record through an internationally recognized research program. A
university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent
scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are
prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
Furthermore, full commitment to do interdisciplinary research, proven
ability and experience in research/science management and
leadership, proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research
projects and to attracting third-party funding (ERC, DFG, EU, AiF or
equivalent) as well as proven ability to develop strategic concepts for
AI for the Built World is expected. Cooperation with and transfer to
industrial or public partners is a further prerequisite.
