University of Twente (UT)
The University of Twente (UT) invites senior researchers with an outstanding research record to apply for the position of full professor in
Computer Architectures for Embedded Systems (CAES) within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. Candidates
qualifying for a full professorship within a period of maximum 3 years are also invited to apply.
Your research focus is on co-design of hardware and software for Embedded Systems. Embedded systems are characterized by stringent requirements
concerning power efficiency, costs, dependability and real-time performance guarantees. Besides these operational aspects, efficient design of
both embedded systems and their applications are of crucial importance. Application areas of these embedded systems are e.g. wireless communications,
sensor networks, public safety systems and automotive.
You will be head of the CAES group. Currently the group consists of 5,2 fte scientific staff members and 30 PhD students. You will be responsible
for research and teaching activities in the area of computer architectures, modelling and tooling for embedded systems. In the area of computer
architectures, the emphasis is on reliable, low energy processing. In the area of application modelling and tooling, an important research
direction of the CAES group is the development of new abstractions and models that can be applied in programming tools to ease the hardware
and software development for MPSoCs without compromising performance and energy-efficiency. It is likely that useful abstractions can only
be created if additional constraints are imposed on the applied software programming models as well as the hardware architectures. In several
projects the group works on tools for modelling streaming applications and parallelization thereof.
The CAES group contributes to the bachelor curriculum of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (modules Computer Systems, Programming
Paradigms, Cyber Physical Systems and IEEE, design and graduation projects). You will be responsible for curriculum and strategic developments
for the 4TU master program on Embedded Systems. Moreover the research group participates in development and teaching in the master curricula
of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Embedded Systems.
You have developed a clear research line, illustrated by publications in top journals and acquired research funding. Your background is
in one of the areas mentioned above, and will further develop the research agenda of the CAES group, extend and maintain collaboration
at departmental, national and international level. You have a strong vision on future development of the field.
You must have a passion for teaching at all levels and has obtained (an equivalent of) the Dutch Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is willing to do so.
Because women are still underrepresented in a number of fields, they are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applications can be submitted before the 31th of May, 2017.

3 years are also invited to apply. They will be appointed as an associate professor (maximum € 6.349,- gross per month).
We offer other excellent terms of employment, such as: professional and personal development programs; a dynamic environment with enthusiastic
colleagues in an organization in which internationalization is an important part of the strategic agenda; a high degree of responsibility and
independence, while collaboration with close colleagues, researchers and other university staff is strongly encouraged.
The University of Twente. We stand for life sciences and technology. High tech and human touch. Education and research that matter. New technology which drives change, innovation and progress in society. The University of Twente is the only campus university in the Netherlands; divided over six faculties we provide more than fifty educational programmes. The University of Twente has a strong focus on personal development and talented researchers are given scope for carrying out pioneering research.
The faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) comprises three disciplines that shape Information and Communication Technology. ICT is more than communication. In almost every product we use mathematics, electronics and computer technology and ICT now contributes to all of societies' activities. The faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders. The research which enjoys a high profile both at home and internationally, has been accommodated in the multidisciplinary research institutes MESA+, CTIT and MIRA.
