The Digital Engineering Faculty at the University of Potsdam hereby announces a joint professorship under the Jülich
Model with the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH to be filled immediately:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Design Thinking and Innovation Research
Design Thinking is the interface between society, economy, and technology, characterized by both a strong interdisciplinary
orientation and a consistent user orientation, including a high focus on real-world applications. The core objects of research
are, in particular, innovation, change, and transformation processes by teams and organizations.
The successful candidate will have research experience in at least one of the following subject areas and have attained
Innovation, change and transformation management within the business world and society
Change processes within an entrepreneurial and public context
Solving complex issues within corporations by using interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches
Methods and tools of user-centered social research
Applicants will have had extensive and pertinent experience regarding development, design, implementation, and projectorientated
application of research concepts in Design Thinking and thereby possess the ability to manage international
Design Thinking research projects. An international, excellent scientific profile is expected along with a broad network
within the Design Thinking community; extensive experience in collaboration with international, national, and local research
networks and large enterprises, SMEs, non-profit organizations, and public institutions will be a great plus.
The qualified candidate will have knowledge of the development, teaching, and organization of privately and publicly
financed research and educational institutions. This includes extensive and proven knowledge in line with the cultural,
strategic, and operational change processes addressed in Design Thinking, particularly seen from a research perspective.
In addition, the applicant is expected to possess wide-ranging background knowledge regarding the teaching and
researched subject areas of digitization in the broadest sense as well as their embedding within organizational and
economic transformation processes. The successful candidate is expected to take responsibility in the HPI-Stanford
Design Thinking Research Program.

The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of at least 8 hours per week at
the University of Potsdam.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg
Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical
aptitude, and a special ability for scientific work, as is typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive
competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral
dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural
research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad.
The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
