Full Professorship (W3) in the field of

The School of Process Engineering is looking for an internationally recognised candidate who represents the field of bioengineering with a high degree of commitment in terms of research and teaching at the TUHH. The research focus should be dedicated to the development of new reactor technologies as well as the upscaling of biotechnological processes. In-depth expertise in one or more of the following research areas is desirable:
New concepts for biotechnological reactors (biofilm, algae, bioelectrochemical, gas fermentation…) and sustainable bioprocesses
Development of scalable reactor technologies
Development of autonomous process control and reactor units
Process modelling and digital twin realisation based on experimental bioprocess data
Molecular optimisation of biocatalysis with whole cells and enzymes
Hybrid processes and process cascades integrating biological, chemical, electrochemical as well as photochemical catalysed steps
Close interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues of the TUHH as well as Hamburg’s major research institutions and industry as well as participation in coordinated major research projects is expected, particularly regarding biosynthesis with whole cells up to technical scale. Special focus should be dedicated to the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in biotechnology.
The area of responsibility of the professorship includes participation in teaching in the Bachelor and Master Degree programmes, especially the programmes in Biochemical and Bioprocess Engineering with basic and advanced lectures as well as practical courses in German and English. We expect high motivation and a strong commitment in teaching.
