The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees,
we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research. The DKFZ has one of the largest sequencing units in Europe
and is within extensive international networks (ICGC, IHEC, etc) and programs in the field of precision medicine, where thousands of
tumor genome data sets are collected each year.

Head of the Core Facility „Omics IT and Data Management“
We are seeking an expert in the field of data management and data processing for establishing and managing the new core facility
“Omics IT and Data Management“. Existing infrastructure and methods at the DKFZ will be integrated and centralized in
this service unit. Your responsibilities will include coordinating the development and implementation of standard protocols for
processing, storage and management of ‘omics data and metadata at the DKFZ, as well as the administration of data servers
in close cooperation with the IT core facility. A central part of the role will be the realization of internal cloud concepts,
the administration of scientific compute servers, and the quality assurance of scientific data. The service of the core facility
includes primary data processing with automated pipelines and supporting researchers in exporting data to public data repositories.

University degree (ideally PhD) in natural sciences, mathematics or computer science
Proven expertise in the field of data management and data processing
Extensive experience in high performance computing and in working with parallel file systems (e.g. Lustre, GPFS)
A deep understanding of biological and medical data
Ability to quickly comprehend complex concepts
Structured, problem-solving and service-oriented mode of action
Experience in directing complex IT projects with accountability for staff and budgets
Willingness to cooperate closely with existing core facilities and scientific groups
Experience in leadership
Excellent command of both written and spoken English and German
Highly flexible and able to work to tight deadlines
The position is initially limited to 5 years.
The position can in principle be part-time.
