The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is a member of the Leibniz
Association and a publically funded institute for problem-oriented,
basic social science research.
The WZB is seeking to fill the position of
Head of the research group
“National Educational Panel
Study (NEPS)”
(m/f/x, for five years, possibly tenured)
Preferred start date is March 1, 2020.
The main task of the research group is to collect the NEPS data for
the periods of school-to-work transition and adult education in
Germany within the NEPS consortium. The successful candidate
must be accomplished in sociology of education with focus on
school-to-work transitions (especially vocational education and
training) and/or adult education and lifelong learning. Candidates
are expected to have a relevant research profile for “education and
digitalization”. The successful candidate must have a very good
knowledge of the NEPS data (starting cohorts 4 and/or 6).
The head of the NEPS research group is expected to lead the NEPS
research team at the WZB, to represent the WZB in the NEPS consortium
(including the connected responsibilities and tasks) and to
actively engage the work of the NEPS stage 6 (Vocational Education
and Transition to the Labor Market) as well as of the NEPS stage 8
(Adult Education and Lifelong Learning).
At a later stage, the position is intended as a joint appointment for
an associate professorship (S-W2-professorship, 5 years) in “sociology
of education and digitalization” at the Freie Universität Berlin,
Institute for Sociology. Applicants must meet the qualifications
for appointment as a W2 university professor (§100 of the Berlin
Higher Education Act, Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
