At the Faculty of Medicine 1,800 scientists are engaged in research, ranging from basic sciences to clinical application, as well as teaching and health care. The Department of Neurology is one of the largest neurological hospital departments in Germany with a strong research focus on vascular, degenerative and immunological neurological diseases. We bring together physician-scientists with basic researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences to perform competitive basic, disease-oriented as well as translational research. The Department of Neurology is part of the scientific focus area "Neuromodulation" of the Medical Faculty which strives to develop novel neuromodulatory strategies (technical / surgical incl. TMS, TDCS, DBS; behavioral; pharmacological) for the prevention and treatment of neurological and psychiatric diseases. This framework offers an excellent scientific environment enabling close interactions with Research Units of the DFG (KFO219, RTG1960), EU funding structures (NeurOmics, IMPACT, Horizon2020, IMI), the local Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and for Metabolism Research, the Cologne Excellence Cluster CECAD, the Research Center Jülich (Institute of Neurosciences and Medicine) and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE, Bonn).
The Department of Neurology invites applications for a full-time
Junior Research Group Leader (f/m/x)
on the motor physiology underlying behavioral selection
and motor control
The position is limited to 5 years after WissZeitVG with regard to third-party funding.
We seek to appoint a candidate with a research interest in the physiology of motor circuits. The candidate is expected to use innovative in-vivo methods (e. g. imaging, functional ultrasound, or electrophysiology) to unravel the mechanisms of behavioral selection and motor control. In addition to an excellent track record in motor neuroscience, the candidate should be able to found a research team that aims at developing independent research programs with extramural funding, based upon complementary strengths and interdisciplinary collaborations with other neuroscientifically oriented institutions of the Medical Faculty and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
This appointment is available for applicants holding a MD, MD / PhD, or PhD degree. The position is offered for five years with the possibility of a three years extension upon successful evaluation. Payment and social benefits follow the regulations of the German salary agreement for public service employees (TV-L NRW).
The position includes funding of a research associate (Post-Doc), a PhD student and / or a technician, soft money for consumables, as well as start-up financing. Significant institutional support, including modern laboratory space and state-of-the-art facilities in addition to career advancing training and mentoring, will be provided.
Motivation to further develop academic teaching experience and qualifications (e. g. support to obtain the Habilitation will be provided) is welcome.
