Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN)
Logo
The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) is an institute for basic scientific research dedicated to investigating the mechanisms of learning and memory on the molecular, cellular and systems levels. With its broad spectrum of animal and human experimental research approaches and its modern technical facilities, the LIN is one of the cornerstones of Magdeburg as a centre for neurosciences.
For a new 9.4 Tesla small animal magnetic resonance tomograph the LIN is seeking, at the earliest opportunity, a highly motivated

MRT/MRS Application Specialist

for an initial two-year appointment with the possibility of the post being made permanent (subject to positive evaluation).
As a centre for neurosciences, under the umbrella of the Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences (www.cbbs.eu), in the individual facilities of the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (www.lin-magdeburg.de), Otto von Guericke University (www.ovgu.de) and the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases of the Helmholtz Society (https://www.dzne.de/standorte/magdeburg.html), Magdeburg has a multitude of non-invasive imaging technologies including magnetic resonance tomographs (MRTs) for both humans (Siemens 3T Prisma, Skyra, Verio; Philips 3T Achieva, Siemens 7T Magnetom Terra) and animals (Bruker BioSpec 4.7T, 9.4T USR). In accordance with these technical possibilities in this location, the opportunities for collaboration with the participating research groups and scientific development and evolution are also large and varied.
Primarily, your role would include the technical and experimental supervision of a new 9.4 T small animal MRT (Bruker BioSpec 94/20 USR with CryoProbe), including the corresponding routine checks, quality assurance, experiment planning, optimisation and development of new measuring protocols, data analysis and administration. Alongside high resolution anatomical, functional (fMRI), diffusion-weighted (DTI) and spectroscopic (MRS) measurement procedures on anaesthetised and awake rodents, in particular the combination of these processes with in vivo electrophysiological, optogenetic, behavioral and molecular biological techniques will be at the forefront of the work. The range of tasks that you can expect to deal with will be correspondingly complex and interesting. Furthermore, within the scope of the joint laboratory for small animal imaging, the possibility exists to work directly with colleagues on the Bruker BioSpec 47/20, Mediso Nano SPECT/CT and Philips Mosaic PET and also to develop your own projects.
Your Profile
  • a completed university degree (or similar qualification) in physics, chemistry or a related natural science or engineering subject
  • several years of practical experience in small animal MRT/MRS
  • good programming knowledge and experience with relevant imaging software
  • an innovative spirit and enjoyment of working in an international team
Our Offer
We offer a demanding and varied role with opportunities for professional development. Your appointment, remuneration and welfare benefits will be in line with the Collective Agreement for Public Service in the Federal States (TV-L). Equality of opportunity and the compatibility of career and family form part of our HR policy. Candidates with severe disabilities will be given preferential treatment if equal suitability is demonstrated.
Please contact PD Dr. Eike Budinger on budinger@lin-magdeburg.de if you have any questions. If we have sparked your interest, please send your detailed and complete application documents stating your earliest possible start date and quoting reference number LIN 2017/MRT01 by 31.08.2017 (arrival here) preferably in the form of a single pdf document to mrt-appl@lin-magdeburg.de or by post to
