The research group “Applied Natural Product Genome Mining” has been newly established at the Department of Microbiology/Biotechnology, Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen, and is financed by the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF). We are a young and highly motivated research team at the interface of bioinformatics and molecular biology. We are interested in developing new bioinformatic tools for the discovery and prediction of novel natural products. Particularly interesting are evolutionary aspects of the biosynthetic gene clusters of bacterial natural products. We want to understand how chemical diversity in natural environments is created and use this knowledge to improve metabolic engineering efforts as well as bioinformatic predictions.

We seek an enthusiastic scientist with a Masters in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, or closely related disciplines with experience and interests in bioinformatic analyses. Candidates are expected to have a solid foundation with the Linux/Unix command line, network and computer administration, and basic programming skills. Several applications used are written in python so proficiency in this language would be beneficial, however any experience with other languages will also be considered. The position is limited for three years.
