PhD position in Algal Molecular Biology (f/m/d)
(part-time 65%, E 13 TV-L)
Reference No. 2021/037. The anticipated start date is May 1st, 2021 or by agreement. The position is
available for three years.
The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence
Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.
The position is available in the research team of Prof. Dr. Peter Kroth. The subject of the research project is the "Molecular analysis of the lightdependent
rhythmic regulation in a marine diatom”. This is a DFG-funded project that collaborates directly with an ANR-funded project of Dr. Angela
Falciatore, Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique, Paris.
The aim of the project is the characterization of the diatom circadian clock, via the identification of photoreceptors that feed a light signal into the clock
and identification of targets of RITMO (circadian clock transcription factor) using the diatom model Phaeodactylum tricornutum. In the first work
package, the signals for the clock's timing in the wild type and knock-out mutants of the photoreceptors, RITMO1, and additional components
identified in the course of the project will be determined, as well as the effect of losses of these components on fitness. In the second work package,
further components of the clock will be identified based on the hierarchy of expression of transcription factors (RNA-seq) and on the binding sites
of RITMO1 and the aureochromes (bind-n-seq, ChIP-seq). In the third work package, the aim is to determine the hierarchy of activation of the
components, their localization and interactions.
The working language is English.
