The emerging field of 'sustainable finance' aims to study how financial markets and institutions can help to support the transition towards a more sustainable economy. The focus in this field is therefore on Environmental, Social and Governance aspects (so-called ESG-externalities) that can be addressed via changes in the financial system. Typical research topics in this area include (but are not limited to): corporate governance and sustainability; financial intermediation models that foster sustainability; sustainable financial products; impact investing; development finance; sustainability ratings; social/hybrid enterprises.
In this project we will develop novel and high-quality research on distinctive research questions in the field of sustainable finance and write up several academic papers on this matter. The focus will be on credit-allocation, sustainability ratings, social financial intermediation and development finance. You will enroll in the PhD-programme Applied Economics (specialization finance). Besides conducting academic research within the area of sustainable finance, a small proportion of your time will be devoted to assisting in writing out a larger-scale project proposal on sustainable finance possibly complemented with teaching-assistance and the supervision of master-level theses.
Your job will consist of the following main activities:
Conducting high-quality academic research within the area ofsustainable finance.
Writing up academic papers with the aim of composing aPhD-dissertation and publishing in high-end academic journals.
Active participation in international conferences and dissemination ofresearch.
