Vollzeit-Stelle
FH Campus Wien
Wien (Österreich)
The University for Applied Sciences, FH Campus Wien and the Technical University of Vienna offer a fully funded research position for three years. Vienna has a thriving biotech scene and is regularly listed among the top cities for quality of life.
In our daily lives, we are frequently confronted with potentially harmful substances and pathogens. Specific and quantitative detection of biological hazards is usually done by time-consuming laboratory-based methods. However, there is an increasing need for rapid detection methods for toxins, microorganisms, viruses and allergens. Ideally, novel methods would even allow automatic detection of biologic hazards in real time.
PhD position: microsensor technology for biological applications
your tasks
practically implement high-performance sensor technology for detection of biological molecules
develop micromachined sensors, which use an oscillating cantilever for mass detection
excitation and read-out of the MEMS resonators is done with integrated piezoelectric transducers
the specifically designed devices will be fabricated in the MEMS Technology Lab of Prof. Ulrich Schmid, at the Institute of Sensor and Actuator Systems at TU Wien (https://www.tuwien.at/etit/isas/mst/mems-technology-lab)
the sensor surfaces will be modified with biomolecules at the Competence Center for Molecular Biotechnology at the University for Applied Sciences, FH Campus Wien (www.fh-campuswien.ac.at/mbk)
goal of the project is to demonstrate the potential of MEMS sensors for the specific detection of biomolecules and to push the limits of sensitivity by tailored device designs
your profile
background in microsensor technology (Master’s degree in physics, electronics or biomedical engineering)
strong interest in biological research questions
good command of written and spoken English
excellent team-working ability
we offer
an exciting research project at the cutting edge in an interdisciplinary environment
a research position for three years starting in April 2023
in top research labs in the City of Vienna
applicants will combine advanced microsystems technologies with biological applications
the University for Applied Sciences, FH Campus Wien focuses on diversity, equal opportunities and respectful cooperation
applicants should submit
a motivation letter including a description of research interests
a detailed curriculum vitae
names and contact details of at least one referee
Please send all documents to: thomas.czerny@fh-campuswien.ac.at Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until March 1st, 2023
