The Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) is one of the largest polymer research facilities in Germany. As an institute of the Leibniz Association,
the IPF is committed to carrying out application-oriented basic research and receives its base funding in equal parts from the federal and state governments.
The focus of activities at the IPF are directed toward the advancement of basic scientific knowledge
for the development of functional polymer materials and polymer materials with new or improved characteristics. In addition, emphasis is also put on combining material
development with innovative and sustainable production and processing technologies.
Advanced materials are necessary and create a driving force for the development of new technologies
and system solutions in medical engineering, modern communication technology, data storage and processing,and transport and energy technology. In their endeavours, the
researchers at the IPF work towards understanding the effects of interfaces and the utilization of interface design in material development, in which nanotechnological aspects as well as interfaces to biosystems
are of great importance.
The IPF-Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Department of Polymer Structures, is offering
one PhD position (Research Associate) within a project "Biobased resin components for the sustainable development of fastening technologies in the construction industry"
funded by Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BMEL) starting date can be as soon as possible, according to Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (WissZeitVG),
with at least 65% of a full salary (subject to the commitment)
Description of the topic:
Fundamental investigations of network formation and characterization using biobased components as part of a PhD qualification project within the cooperative BMBF project.
This comprises literature search and training in the subject-specific technical tasks and defining of individual objectives of the PhD project. The PhD work will focus on three main topics:
synthesis of selected compounds for curing resins
analytics of the curing reaction
simulation of network formation
Working on the individual doctoral project will be realized in close collaboration with colleagues at Institute Polymer Materials and Theory of Polymers as well as with the project
partners from the industry. The experiments as well as the evaluation of the results are expected to be performed on your own responsibility. Elaboration and presentation of newly attained knowledge in the respective
field of research at conference, project meetings, in reports and publications is expected.
University degree (Master / Diploma) in chemistry allowing acceptance as PhD student at the Faculty of Chemistry at TU Dresden. We look for high-quality graduates with training
in organic and polymer chemistry and/or material science. Expertise in synthetic work and in analytics of curing reaction is favored as well as high interest in theoretical understanding of the curing reaction
(simulation). Interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and advanced oral and written English communication skills are expected.
