PhD Student (f/m/d) at the Institute of Materials Physics and Technology
The full-time position will be fixed-term for the duration of 39 months and rated TV-L 13.
Kenn-Nr.: D20194Your tasks
You will obtain the opportunity to carry out internationally visible scientific research that leads you to a PhD degree.
Your research will be embedded in the Coordinated Research Area SFB 986 “Taylor-Made Multiscale Materials Systems” through its project “Hybrid Materials Based on Nanoporous Metals”.
You will demonstrate, for the first time, the feasibility of metal-based electrochemical actuator- and sensor elements that exploit a novel materials design strategy for metal/polymer/water hybrid materials, with nanoporous metals made by dealloying as the elementary materials base.
The key challenge is developing preparation strategies for the chemo-mechanically active elements of the materials design. This involves metallurgical preparation, nanostructure formation by alloy corrosion, and functionalization by electrodeposition of conductive polymers. The materials design is guided by considerations on the mechanics of interfaces and on their chemo-mechanical coupling.
You will characterize your material by simultaneously applying mechanical testing and electrochemical techniques; x-ray small angle scattering and x-ray nanotomography as well as various microscopy approaches will be available for supplementary characterization.
Your profile
You hold a master's degree, specifically in the areas Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry.
Practical experimental expertise in the areas nanoporous metals, alloy corrosion, mechanical properties, electrochemistry, surface physics or metallurgy is desirable.
You are skilled in communicating your scientific research to your peers in oral and written form.
Our offer
We offer you the opportunity to work towards a PhD degree on a cutting-edge and well-supported project.
You will have wide-spread opportunities of scientific cooperation within the SFB 986, and you will be welcome to join the SFB 986 graduate school.
For information you are welcome to contact Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jörg Weißmüller.
Alle Menschen haben die gleiche Chance: Chancengleichheit
We are looking forward to your Online Application by 28.02.2021.
