The department of physics at Stockholm university has around 240 employees, including 90 PhD students. There are 50 professors and senior lecturers, 70 researchers and postdocs, and a technical and administrative staff of 30 persons. There are also around 250 students on the first-cycle and second-cycle study programmes.

Manipulating the photo-reactivity of molecules can be achieved either by chemical modification, changing the environment, or by dressing the potential energy surface with specially tailored electromagnetic fields. From cavity quantum electrodynamics it is well known that an optical resonator can modify spontaneous emission of atoms via quantization of the radiation field. While this topic has been studied for a long time by scientists from atomic physics and quantum optics, more recently its potential for the control of photochemical reactions has been discovered.
This discovery opens up new possibilities to design photonic catalysts and light-matter materials. Possible applications range from novel catalysts that may decompose environmental pollutants to the optimization of solar energy sources. This project will theoretically investigate the possibilities of controlling the excited state dynamics of molecules in cavities, develop new simulation techniques, and study new physical phenomena in these light-matter systems.
We seek self-motivated candidates who are fluent in English and who are enthusiastic about working on theory projects that combine state-of-the-art chemistry and physics. Prior training in theoretical chemistry, molecular physics, or quantum optics, and knowledge in computer programming is of advantage.
