Cloud Computing for the Internet of Things
The IPVS at the University of Stuttgart offers in cooperation with Robert Bosch GmbH a PhD
position (100 %, TV-L E 13) in the area of cloud computing for the Internet of Things (IoT).
IoT services hosted on cloud computing infrastructures must provide and fulfill service level
agreements (SLAs) based on quality of service (QoS) models to meet customer expectations. The
goal of this PhD project are concepts and methods to support the solution architect in designing
cost-efficient IoT cloud services with well-defined QoS properties.
IPVS offers a stimulating work environment including modern research laboratories and various
national and international collaborations. Moreover, this PhD project offers an excellent
opportunity to cooperate with domain and cloud experts from Robert Bosch GmbH developing
innovative IoT cloud infrastructures and services. The Bosch IoT Cloud allows for developing,
testing, and evaluating solutions in a high-performance cloud infrastructure using state-of-the-art
technologies and tools.
We expect applicants to hold a Master degree or German Diploma in Computer Science or
a closely related area, preferably with a focus on distributed systems, with excellent study
results. Moreover, a background in cloud services and technologies is desired, e.g., key/value
stores, database systems, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, virtualization technologies, messaging systems, etc.
Applicants should be highly motivated to work independently as well as in teams together with
partners from industry to solve challenging conceptual problems and design and implement
efficient solutions. Very good English language skills are required to discuss results with
