As part of the Institute, the Section of High-Precision Proton Therapy invites applications as

PostDoc (f/m/d)
– Improving proton therapy for moving targets

The position will be available March 1st, 2021. The employment contract is limited to two years. The place of work is Dresden-Rossendorf. The working time amounts to 39 h/week.

Tasks:

The job holder will shape and push translational medical physics research forward with the specific main aim of developing and clinically implementing methods for automated QA and intervention procedures for an online-adaptive proton therapy workflow, with special focus on the treatment of moving targets. The development and automation of 4D logfile-based QA and dose recalculation procedures will be a key topic. Furthermore, in close cooperation with the clinical team, the identification, implementation and validation of a best-practice, state-of-the-art treatment of moving targets will be carried out. Closely connected is the application and improvement of modern image guidance as well as its enabling for online-adaptive workflows. Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at conferences, the supervision of students and doctoral candidates and the preparation of funding applications are self-evident tasks for a committed postdoc.

Requirements:

  • successfully completed PhD in the field of medical physics or a comparable applied/natural science
  • sound knowledge and profound practical experience in the research field of translational medical physics, especially in proton or ion beam therapy or adaptive radiotherapy
  • experience in a multidisciplinary environment, e.g. working with clinicians & medical physicists
  • knowlegde in time-resolved (4D) imaging via CT, CBCT or MRI, research experience at clinical or experimental accelerators, competent operation of the treatment planning system RayStation and good
  • programming skills e.g. in python are highly preferable
  • independent, structured and solution-oriented working methods, analytical thinking, above-average commitment and interest in working in a multidisciplinary and international environment
  • actively pursued publishing activities and first experiences in third-party fundraising
  • strong communication and English language skills
