Since being founded in 1815, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen has offered medicine of the highest standard and incorporated the latest insights from medical research and state-of-the-art equipment into diagnosis and therapy. More than 7,500 employees from approximately 50 different occupations are needed to provide the wide range of services offered by Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, ensuring our patients receive the very best care around the clock.
5 postdoctoral fellow positions in neuroscience / human neural stem cell biology
for ForInter: "Interaction of human brain cells" department at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
Your tasks:
The research focus is understanding the impact of cell-cell interaction in human brain cells. These cells form and interact in functional and dynamic circuits, thus providing the basis for the complex functions of the human brain. For a deeper understanding, dynamic and functional investigations of the interaction between the different cells in the human brain are required.
Therefore, the Bavarian Consortium Interaction of human brain cells (ForInter) aims to investigate the interaction between different cell types in the human brain using multidimensional cell culture systems. We propose that defined human cell-cell systems are able to model the physiological and pathological interactions of cells in the human brain.
We aim to generate multidimensional cell-culture systems and 3D brain organoids. The goal is to gain novel insights in the structural and dynamic interactions and analyze the physiological development of the human brain as well as of pathological processes. We employ human embryonic stem cells (hES) and patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) to model the interaction of developmental processes and disease states by using state-of-the-art approaches in genomics, molecular & cell biology, biochemistry, electrophysiology, and imaging.
