Postdoctoral research fellow (f/m/d) at the chair of biochemistry and molecular biology
The private University of Witten/Herdecke gGmbH is the first German university with private sponsorship. It was founded in 1982.
Postdoctoral research fellow (f/m/d)
The chair of biochemistry and molecular biology is offering a full-time position as postdoctoral research fellow within the group of Dr. Rockenfeller. The Rockenfeller lab investigates how lipids affect autophagy and cell death, which both represent cellular processes relevant for ageing.
The initial contract will be limited until November 2023 with potential extension. We seek a highly motivated, talented and ambitious candidate with experience in Drosophila and or yeast genetics.
You will work in a small team within the research group for cellular ageing and lipid biochemistry. The research project focuses on identifying downstream targets of lipid mediated longevity. The methods you will apply include lipid extraction and analysis by TLC, yeast knock-out/ mutant generation, chronological lifespan analysis, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, Drosophila crosses and lifespan analysis, purification of mitochondria, lipid droplets and autophagosomes. Experience with any of these techniques is desirable.
Your tasks include planning and conducting research projects involving yeast and fly genetics. This includes statistical analysis, manuscript writing and presentation at scientific meetings. Experience in writing third-party research funding applications is an asset but not absolutely required. Academic teaching and supervision of Master and PhD students in the laboratory is expected.
Successful applicants hold a PhD in a bioscientific discipline such as molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular medicine or microbiology. You have a strong background in molecular and cell biology with excellent publication track record. Experience with either of the two model organisms Drosophila or yeast is required. Scientific experience in the fields of autophagy, cell death, lipid metabolism or ageing is an advantage but not required. You are a strong team player with excellent communication and organisation skills. Preferably, you already have experience with the supervision of PhD students.
We offer a friendly and open-minded scientific working environment and promote individual career development.
Please submit your application including CV, letter of motivation, publication record and academic certificates via our recruiting platform on our website until latest 18.10.2020.
