Postdoctoral research fellow (f/m/d) in informatics - data science
University of Bergen
Postdoctoral research fellow in informatics - data science
At the Department of Informatics there is a vacancy for a postdoctoral research
fellow position in informatics, with specialization in data science. The position is for a fixed term of 4 years and is associated with the recently founded Center for
Data Science (CEDAS).
About the Department and CEDAS
Digitization of businesses, industry, public administration, and education makes informatics play an increasingly important role in the development of the society. Research and education in informatics are crucial for the digital transformation of the society to succeed. The Department of informatics contributes to this through seven research groups that deliver research and education at a high international level in algorithms, bioinformatics, information security, machine learning, optimization, programming theory, and visualization. All the groups are successfully co-funded by research grants, among others by the European Research Council (ERC). The Department offers state of art education at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. Due to the central role that informatics plays in society, the Department is in rapid growth - in the number of students, research directions, and employees. We have today about 700 students, more than 50 PhD candidates, and 150 employees, among which 35 are faculty. We recently founded the Center for Data Science (CEDAS) as an important extension of our research and education activities.
About the project/work tasks:
All employees of the Department are expected to contribute to excellence through high quality research and teaching. The announced position is associated with the Center for Data Science, CEDAS. CEDAS research is to a large degree interdisciplinary in that it builds upon two or more of the mentioned focus areas for its research projects. We are looking for an excellent scientist who will contribute to the success of CEDAS and its data science research. Candidates for this position should be ready to contribute cutting-edge data science along the research priorities of CEDAS, based on their previous research work. Possible research topics for this position include multivariate algorithmics, structure-aware visual data science, semi-automatic topological data analysis of high-dimensional data, as well as others that fit into CEDAS. Research competence related to an application of data science, for example in bioinformatics, is also welcome. Applicants are required to clarify the fit of their planned research with the CEDAS priorities in their application
