Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in informatics: logic and graph theory
The Department of Informatics has a postdoctoral research fellow position in informatics, with specialization in logic and graph theory, and a special focus on parameterized complexity. The position is for a fixed term of 3 years and is associated with the project "Parameterized Complexity for Practical Computing", financed by The Research Council of Norway through the ToppForsk programme.
About the Department
The Department of informatics has seven research groups that deliver research and education at a high international level in algorithms, bioinformatics, information security,
machine learning, optimization, programming theory, and visualization. All the groups are successfully co-funded by research grants, among others by the European Research Council
(ERC). The department offers state of art education at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. Due to central role informatics plays in society, the department is in rapid growth, in to
the number of students, research directions, and employees. We have today about 700 students, more than 50 PhD candidates, and 150 employees, among which 35 are faculty. We recently
founded the Center for Data Science (CEDAS) as an important extension of our research and education activities.
About the project/work tasks:
The project, addressing applications of parameterized complexity, is led by Professor Michael Fellows. For this particular position the main emphasis will be on computationally feasible relations between directed graphs and consistency of logical theories. The successful candidate will be working with Associate professor Michal Walicki, in addition to Professor Fellows. All employees of the department are expected to contribute to excellence through high quality research.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree with specialization in formal logic, graph theory or parameterized complexity. PhD students may apply if the defence of the PhD-thesis is to be completed by April 30, 2020. Employment cannot take place before the PhD is awarded.
Experience with logic, directed graphs or parameterized complexity (preferably all three) is a requirement.
Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.
Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written English.
Good conduct of the Norwegian language is an advantage.
Good personal and relational qualities are required.
Research experience, ambitions and potential will count heavily in the evaluation of the candidates.
About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:
The postdoctoral position is a fixed term position with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. If the appointee lacks teaching experience, or other relevant qualifications, the employment period may be increased up to 4 years. Teaching and other components will in such cases be added to the works tasks of the position. The department will fund the extra months. Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution.
For postdoctoral research fellow positions associated with externally financed projects, the completion of the project proposal for the qualifying work, as well as a progress plan, will be developed in cooperation with the head of department. It is a requirement that the project is completed in the course of the period of employment.

Salary between pay grade 60 - 65 (code 1352 / pay range 24, alternative 4) according to the state salary scale upon appointment. This constitutes a gross annual salary of NOK between 532 300 - 583 900. Further promotions are given according to length of service.
