The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of

Professor
in »Translational Pathology«

to begin at the earliest possible date. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Government Tenure Track program.

Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine and will be part of the Department of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy, a large diagnostic and research institution for morphomolecular human and comparative pathology. TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and in teaching. Close interactions with the life science, bioinformatics, systems medicine and data science groups at TUM enable innova-tive, interdisciplinary and translational research. To foster interdisciplinary research focusing on morphomolecular biomarker discoveries, TUM has also advertised a professorship in Computational Pathology, belonging to the same department.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the position include research and teaching, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in translational morphomelcular pathology, preferably in the field of oncology, to further promote innovative and internationally visible advances in this area of research. The successful applicant is also intended to assume duties in the diagnostics and management structure of the Department of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy.
The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and basic courses offered by the TUM School of Medicine, as well as courses for other TUM schools and departments.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with a university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching relevant to their career level in an internationally recognized scientific environment. Successful candidates show pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English. Substantial research experience abroad are expected. Moreover, candidates should possess a proven ability to acquire third-party funding for cooperative research projects (e.g. DFG, EU, BMBF) and - depending on the career level - to lead such projects. A successful application for an advanced personal research fellowship (e.g. Heisenberg, ERC) as well as the board certification in Pathology are desired.

Our Offer
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research envi-ronment of the Greater Munich Area. Furthermore, TUM offers attractive and performance-based salary conditions and additional social benefits.
The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. MDCO gives assistance for the relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accom-panying family members.

Your Application
TUM is an equal opportunity employer. As such, we explicitly encourage applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Application documents should be submitted in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Appointment and Career System are available at http://www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting.

Please send your application no later than December 14, 2018 to the Dean of the TUM School of Medicine, Prof. Peter Henningsen, Email: dekanat.medizin@tum.de.
