Professor
in » Translational Animal Sciences «
W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) or W3 Associate/Full Professor; to begin as soon as possible.
Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Molecular Life Sciences at the TUM School of Life Sciences. The interdisciplinary campus Freising-Weihenstephan offers numerous opportunities for collaborative research in the areas of biosciences, agricultural sciences, infection biology, immunology and a focus area in microbiome research. The professorship can take on a key role within the newly founded Center for Integrated Infection Prevention (ZIP) and participate as a member of the Hans Eisenmann-Forum for Agricultural Sciences (HEF).
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. The overarching goal of the professorship should be the generation and characterization of genetically modified large animal models. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of gene editing with a focus on models for agricultural as well as translational research. Established as well as new genetic engineering tools should be implemented into the livestock breeding programs at the TUM School of Life Sciences. Approaches to increase animal health and welfare should be developed. Collaborations towards the TUM School of Medicine and Health (in formation) can be established to generate large animal models for human diseases. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs such as Agricultural Biosciences, Molecular Biotechnology, Biology, Agrosystem Sciences and Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see

A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad and full commitment to do interdisciplinary research are expected, as well as – when applying for a W3 Associate or Full Professorship – proven ability to attract third-party funding (e.g., DFG, EU) and lead cooperative research projects.
