Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Professor
in » Quantum Algorithms and Applications «
W3 Associate/Full Professor; to begin as soon as possible. The professorship is endowed by BMW AG.
Scientific environment
The professorship is announced as a joint appointment of TUM’s Departments of Physics and Informatics, as of October 2022, the TUM School of Natural Sciences and the TUM School of Computation, Information, and Technology. It is expected to strengthen the research programs of the Cluster of Excellence "Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology" (MCQST) and the interdisciplinary Bavarian initiative “Munich Quantum Valley” (MQV), in particular strengthening informatics-related activities in that context.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Quantum Algorithms and Applications with a focus on application-oriented quantum algorithms as well as software- and algorithm-related aspects of quantum computing, thus contributing to the practical realization of quantum computing systems together with partners in academia and industry. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor’s and master’s programs, in particular in both departments mentioned above.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see

A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification in one of the two disciplines, including a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
