As part of the development of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in the Department of Art & Design at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, we are looking to fill the following full-time position (40 hrs./week - 18 SWS) for the winter semester at our campus in Potsdam;
Professorship for Design Theory and Cultural Theory (m/f/d)
We are looking for an outstanding academic personality with relevant national and/or international experience and a reputation in research on design processes and digital cultures.
You understand means of communication in their design-media potential and in their social as well as cultural and artistic relevance. They have experience in accompanying and reflecting
on design processes in the digital age. In the field of theory of bachelor’s and master’s programs, they teach the scientific fundamentals of design as well as empirical and humanities
research, including their methods. The position holder should critically reflect on current developments of global media cultures as well as their cultural diversification and localization.
The advertised professorship may include the scientific management of the UE Innovation Hub Potsdam in cooperation with the study programs Visual Experience Design, UX/UI-Design, Communication
Design, and Innovation Design Management. Your tasks will also include dedicated collaboration on the curricular conception of new and the further development of existing study programs.
UE attaches particular importance to the willingness to initiate cooperation with partners from culture, science, business and research, to organize conferences and symposia and to be responsible
for their publication. Proven networking in the Berlin-Brandenburg region is emphatically welcomed. Proof of a very good teaching routine, as well as publishing in English, are required in addition
to the ability to converse in German, both written and spoken.
Tasks:
- Conducting introductory and in-depth courses in theory in our English language degreeprograms.
- Advising and supervising prospective and current students
- Coordination and development of the theory area
- Grading exams, supervising seminars, projects, bachelor, master and doctoral theses
- Establishment of partnerships with companies and institutions for joint practical projects andfurther networking of the university at all locations
- Appropriate participation in the self-administration of the university as well as in sales andmarketing activities of the UE
- Acquisition of third-party funding, supervision of internships
- Administrative activities and committee work
Your profile:
- Completed relevant university studies (e.g. art, culture or media studies, philosophy).
- Successfuly completed PhD, i.e. proof of qualification for scientific work
- Qualified professional experience, at least three years, two of which outside of academia
- Several years of teaching experience at universities (international advantage)
- Experience in curriculum development and committee work
- Ability to teach courses in the English language
- Publication and research activity desired
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Organizational skills and commitment
