Professorship of Primary Care Pharmacy or Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern has approved two new professorships at the Institute of Primary
Health Care (BIHAM):
50% Professorship of Primary Care Pharmacy or Medicine (open rank: associate
or assistant professorship, tenure track)
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern is establishing a Master's program in Pharmacy, to begin in
the fall of 2020. The program will focus on patient-oriented education and interprofessional collaboration between
professionals across health care organizations.
For the first position, we are seeking a pharmacist, and for the second, a medical doctor. Successful candidates
will work together to establish joint courses for pharmacy and medical students. They will also develop
research projects in primary care, with an emphasis on interprofessional collaboration.
Candidates must have several years of practical experience in pharmacy or family medicine / general internal
Their research activity should be wide-ranging and international. We prefer a focus on health services research.
Candidates should also have a record of competing for and gaining third-party funding.
Candidates must be committed to collaborating successfully with each other and with their peers. They should
have strong communication skills and be able to successfully network with scientists and health care professionals
within the university / university hospital, and other health care organizations. Familiarity with the Swiss
health care system would be an advantage.
Candidates must have earned a Federal Swiss degree or comparable diploma in Pharmacy or Medicine. They
should have a postgraduate certification in Pharmacy or Hospital Pharmacy or a medical specialist title (Swiss
FMH certification or equivalent) in an area related to primary care. Candidates will have practical experience
in university teaching as well as professional experience in the field of medicine or pharmacy. We will expect
successful candidates to work 50% for us as part of the professorship, and to work part-time in pharmacy or
medicine (20% to 50%).
