Professorship (W2) for Clinical Genomics and Bioinformatics

We have an immediate opening for a
Professor for Clinical Genomics
in accordance with salary grade W2 of the State
Renumeration Act (Landesbesoldungsgesetz)
We are looking for a clinical geneticist or a clinical genetic laboratory specialist
(or a candidate who works towards either qualification) to represent clinical
genomics and bioinformatics and human genetics in research, teaching and
diagnostics. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the
University Medical Center‘s Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platform and
will also closely be associated to the main research areas within the University
Medical Center: the Focus Program Translational Neurosciences (FTN), the
Research Center for Immunotherapy (FZI), the Center for Translational Vascular
Biology (CTVB), and the local University Cancer Center (UCT). The future holder
of this position will also be expected to have cross-functional skills such as
leadership skills, cooperation capability as well as network competence.
The academic duties of this position will include the bioinformatic analysis of
large datasets generated through the NGS platform and the implementation
of new algorithms and pipelines with the goal of accelerating and standardizing
the clarification and diagnosis of hereditary diseases, as well as to supplement
the portfolios of the University Medical Center and the Institute of Moleculare
Biology (IMB) through whole exome and genome sequencing. We are seeking
an internationally recognized researcher with excellent publications and highquality
third-party research to demonstrate his or her scientific excellence.
There is provision for collaboration with the Core Unit Bioinformatics at the
University Medical Center.
The activities in the clinical field are extended in particular to the molecular
genetic diagnostics of the Institute of Human Genetics as well as the
associated Outpatient Center (MVZ). Furthermore, there is a provision
for collaboration with the Center for Rare Diseases. Aside from superior
expertise in human and molecular genetic diagnostics, service readiness
and mediation skills are also required strengths for this position.
The professorship will involve comprehensive participation in teaching students.
The holder of this position will be the representative person for medical students
in the field of molecular genetic diagnostics in the subject of human genetics
and teach bachelor and master students in the biomedicine and anthropology
programs. The willingness to assure academic training and demonstrable
teaching competence are required for a successful application, as well as the
habilitation or an alternative qualification according to § 49(1) no.4a of the
Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate.
All remaining conditions for employment are defined in § 49 of the German
Higher Education Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
