Professorship (W2) Media Studies: Digital Media Culture

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Bonn is seeking to fill the position of a
W 2 - Professorship Media Studies:
Digital Media Culture
at the Department of Language, Media Studies, and Musicology at the earliest
The position is offered in the framework of the specifications and guidelines
of the "Programme for Women in the Professoriate" of the German Federal
Ministry of Education and Research. The programme supports gender equality,
i.e. it is meant to enhance the presence of women at all levels, and to increase
the number of women in high academic positions.
The future holder of the professorship represents the subject of Media Studies
in a wide sense. She has a strong background in media theory, the methodology of media research as well as the critical contemplation on theoretical
approaches and methods of research.
Her focus in teaching and research should be on digital media culture. She has
a strong research profile in the theory and history of digital media as well as in
the methods of their study. The professorship critically explores theoretical and
methodological approaches to the historical development of digital media, their
aesthetics and political implications in the context of global societal change.
The applicant has broad experience in media research, especially concerning
the theory, history, and analysis of digital media culture. This should be proven
by her qualified doctoral thesis, habilitation/second book or other equivalent
accomplishments (in accordance with the standards of the German Higher
To teach questions and problems concerning the development of digital media and
the appropriate study methods, educational skills are required. Furthermore,
engagement in academic teaching, an interest in advancing the Department's
study programmes as well as involvement in academic self-administration
are expected. Participation in the transdisciplinary research areas (TRAs) of
the University of Bonn as well as in new initiatives of research associations

The hiring requirements are in accordance with 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW.
