We are looking to fill the position as soon as possible. The position is initially a W2 fixed-term position with civil servant status for 6 years with tenure track to a permanent W3 position after a successful evaluation based on § 64 Hessian Higher Education act.
The professorship belongs to the Department of Grapevine Breeding (RZ). Department staff conduct research and teaching in the area of germplasm improvement, clonal selection and breeding of new rootstocks by using classical and molecular breeding technologies.
Responsibilities include research and teaching in the fields of grapevine genetics and breeding. Special emphasis should be placed on the use of modern technologies to evaluate germplasm properties of Vitis species, the breeding of new rootstocks and the evaluation of their adaptive capacity to climate and soil properties. Another task is the characterization of adaptive processes of grapevine cultivars and clones to local characteristics and changing environments in particular in the context of climate change. The teaching load during the tenure track phase includes courses in German and English language bachelor and master programs with 4 - 6 hours per week during the semester.
We seek to appoint a junior scientist with excellent potential for outstanding national and international research in grapevine breeding and ecological adaptation of Vitis plant material. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification in natural sciences with a focus on agriculture, viticulture, horticulture, plant biology, plant breeding or other relevant disciplines is a prerequisite. We expect pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in German and English. Basic experience in the acquisition of external funding is desirable. The candidate must be willing to supervise Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral theses and to co-operate with other research and teaching units on campus. Participation in and performance of departmental and university service is expected.
