Your Profile The successful candidate can teach and do research in philosophy of science and technology and has an area of specialization in philosophy of AI technology. It is expected that the candidates show proven expertise in interdisciplinary research. It is desirable if candidates have, in addition to philosophy, some qualification in the sciences such as biology/neuroscience, physics, or computer science. Candidates must demonstrate excellent internationally recognized research achievements appropriate to the stage of their career through high quality publications and (externally funded) research projects. Research experience abroad is desired. An outstanding doctoral degree as well as pedagogical aptitude are prerequisites for the position. Additionally, a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent qualification in philosophy is required for the position of a full professor. Proficient command of written and spoken German is a requirement. The candidate’s appreciation of the Jesuit tradition in higher education is expected.
Your Responsibilities The successful applicant is expected to develop and sustain research activities in the field of “Naturphilosophie†(epistemological and metaphysical questions arising from the natural sciences) which has played a significant role in the tradition of the HFPH. The successful applicant will develop their own research projects and secure third-party funding. The successful applicant is responsible for representing and integrating their research within the HFPH and will contribute to international academic cooperation both within the worldwide network of Jesuit Universities and beyond. Interdisciplinary cooperation with other Bavarian universities is part of the position. The successful applicant will deliver excellent research-led teaching and supervision at all levels. The applicant is expected to deliver introductory lectures in philosophy of science, esp. in philosophy of physics and/or biology (BA-level). Participation in the academic governance of the HFPH and contribution to its third mission activities are also expected.
