filled from July 01, 2019 on. Tenure possible after positive evaluation.
The Professorship for Adenine Nucleotide Signaling should considerably strengthen research and academic
education in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology. Moreover, the new professor
is considered a major research player in the newly founded Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich)
1328 „Adenine Nucleotides in Immunity and Inflammation“. Collaborative Research
Center (Sonderforschungsbereich) 1328 is dedicated to decipher the roles of adenine nucleotides as
essential and ubiquitous signal molecules for cell-cell interaction or as intracellular second messengers.
Collaborative Research Centers may be funded up to 12 years by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
To perform research and academic teaching in biochemistry and molecular cell biology.
To establish a research group dedicated to adenine nucleotide signaling, preferably in the context of immunology and/or inflammation.
To integrate the newly established research group into Collaborative Research Center 1328.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology with its research groups „Calcium Signaling" (head Professor Guse) and „Immunometabolism“ (head Professor Heeren) belongs to the largest bio-medical departments within the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. We offer a research-oriented environment with state-of-the-art instrumentation for world class research in biochemistry and molecular cell biology.
Within Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich) 1328 „Adenine Nucleotides in Immunity and Inflammation“ that started work on July 01, 2018, we offer a multitude of collaborative possibilities, either with basic biomedical subjects such as biochemistry or immunology, or with clinical collaboration partners.
In 2022 the Department will move to a brand-new laboratory building.
9 hours teaching per week during two terms of 14 weeks/year, according to § 10 LVVO. Reduction of teaching obligation is possible according to §§ 15 ff. LVVO.
Requirements for employment
In general, as stated in § 15 Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz dated July 18, 2001, and according to the latest version
Certificate of „Habilitation“ for a bio-molecular subject or equivalent scientific achievement, both in research and teaching.
Internationally recognized research achievements in cell signaling, with special emphasis on adenine nucleotide signaling
In-depth experience in at least one of the following research areas: analysis of ion channels, enzymes, receptors or transporters involved in adenine nucleotide signaling; High resolution/super resolution live cell imaging; HPLC/HPLC-MS of adenine nucleotides.
Experience in acquiring and managing extramurally funded projects
Cooperation and leading skills as well as engagement within academic self-administration
