There will be four research centers and a college. This is just the latest chapter in our long-standing collaboration as the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), a community of 14,000 researchers and
120,000 students in the heart of Germany.
As part of the Research Alliance Ruhr, the Research Center One Health is seeking to fi ll the following position at the Faculty of Biology, University of Duisburg-Essen as soon as possible:
Professorship (W3) for Ecotoxicology
Your Responsibilities
The person selected to hold the new professorship will chair the
Department of Ecotoxicology. The successful candidate should have a
research focus in experimental ecotoxicology/stress ecology, modeling
and data analysis, and/or environmental analytics. The teaching load is
reduced to four weekly hours per semester. The successful candidate is
expected to contribute to English-taught courses in the Master‘s degree
programs.
Your Qualifications
The future chair should be an internationally acknowledged scientist
in the fi elds of ecotoxicology, also including a strong track-record in
interdisciplinary studies. Applicants are expected to provide outstanding
expertise to support and further develop existing water-related research
programs and the thematic expansion of the Research Center “One
Health”. Thus, a great willingness to support the core research areas of
the Faculty of Biology and the ZWU and cooperation with internal and
external networks is mandatory.
Expertise in leadership of a working group as well as publications in
high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and successful experience in the
acquisition of competitive third-party funding projects are mandatory.
Strong organizational skills, the ability to cooperate with other
researchers, and the willingness to independently initiate and guide
large research proposals are required. Experience in obtaining
third-party funding, leading projects in research consortia, and
undertaking projects on his or her own initiative is desirable.
In addition, the recruitment criteria of Sections 36 and 37 of the North
Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen
des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) apply.

The Research Center One Health investigates the fundamental mechanisms of health and disease from the molecular up to large-scale environmental science. Here, nine new institutes will be established over the next three years.
The Research Center is linked to all three member universities of the University Alliance Ruhr. The professorship advertised here will be closely associated with the Faculty of Biology and the Center for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU) of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Water-related research at the ZWU focuses on the key areas “ecosystem health”, “water quality”, and “functional biodiversity”. These core issues have been consolidated in numerous interdisciplinary research collaborations among the 30 working groups of the ZWU. All involved faculties and institutions have a strong track record of acquiring major third-party support for collaborative research funds in the area of water research (CRC1439: RESIST; research college Future Water; new research building FutureWaterCampus).
Research Alliance Ruhr
The Research Alliance Ruhr is a joint undertaking of the three major universities in the Ruhr area and was initiated by the Ruhr Conference. The four research centers will focus on “One Health”, “Chemical Sciences and Sustainability”, “Trustworthy Data Science and Security”, and “Future Energy Materials and Systems”. In addition, the Research Alliance Ruhr is establishing a “College for Social Sciences and Humanities”.
The Research Alliance Ruhr will appoint up to 50 research professors in the next few years and also offer numerous positions for research assistants.
