Ruhr-Universität Bochum
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of
Germany‘s leading research universities.
The University draws its strengths from both
the diversity and the proximity of scientific and
engineering disciplines on a single, coherent
campus. This highly dynamic setting enables
students and researchers to work across traditional
boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
The RUB is a vital institution in the Ruhr area,
which has been selected as European Capital of
Culture for the year 2010.
The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor (W3) in Cell Physiology. The start date for the position is October 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
We expect applicants to investigate cellular processes in the mammalian central nervous system using innovative state-of-the-art cell and molecular biology methods, advanced imaging techniques or genomic strategies. Research topics should interface with one or more of the following core research areas of the faculty "Cell biology of signal detection and response" or "Protein research and bioengineering". The successful candidate is expected to participate in grant initiatives (e.g. SFBs, Research Training Groups) and integrate into at least one of the inter-faculty research programs "Research Department Neuroscience (RDN)", "Protein Research Department (PRD)", "Protein research Unit Ruhr within Europe (PURE)" or "Protein Diagnostics (ProDi)".
The future holder of the post will represent the subject in research and teaching. Teaching duties are at all levels of the Bachelor (B.Sc.) and Master (M.Sc.) of Science programs of the faculty (practical exercises in animal physiology, neuroscience within the Master of Science program). Furthermore, the position offers the possibility to teach in various PhD programs (International Graduate School of Biosciences (IGB), International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN), RUB Research School).
Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic qualifications (e.g. habilitation) and evidence for academic excellence and achievements are required, as well as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes according to RUB‘s mission statement. Moreover, we expect:
  • high commitment to teaching including the ability to teach in German
  • participation in inter-disciplinary work
  • evidence of sustained scientific productivity, including external funding (grant or industry)
The Ruhr-University Bochum is an equal opportunities employer.
Applications (in English or German) including CV, list of publications, description of research interests and future plans, lists of funded grant proposals and teaching activities, as well as the five most relevant publications should be sent to the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Prof. Dr. M.
