The Kiel University and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean
Research Kiel will attract more qualified women for professorships.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Kiel University,
Germany and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research
Kiel jointly invite applications for a
Professorship (W3) in
Marine Pelagic Ecology
We are seeking a high level scientist with outstanding qualification in
Marine Ecology, especially in the context of food webs at lower trophic
levels (phytoplankton and / or zooplankton). The applicant should
have strong research competence in studying the interactions among
plankton organisms ranging from predation, parasitism, mutualism,

An embedding of the research into ecological theory would be desirable.
In order to unravel functions of species and communities the application
of modern molecular tools ("omics technologies") is highly welcome.
The professorship will be based at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre
for Ocean Research (www.geomar.de
) and is equipped substantially.
GEOMAR has access to ship-time for expeditions to all world‘s oceans
and active participation as well as use of these resources is encouraged.
Through the Kiel Marine Organism Culture Center KIMOCC at GEOMAR

are further available which will allow the combination of expedition
activity with experimental work. The post will be connected to the Kiel
Excellence Cluster "The Future Ocean" (http://www.ozean-der-zukunft.de/english/
) and has access to the Centre for Molecular Biosciences at
Kiel University (http://www.zmb.uni-kiel.de/
). The successful candidate
is expected to engage in the application for a third phase of the
German Excellence Initiative.
The successful candidate should have a proven track-record of
(i) high-level publications and third-party funding in marine ecology
